I Define Me Book/Journal Pgs. 40, 41 Hygiene

Pillow talk

Are you Defining your ZZZZZ’s? It is crucial that growing girls know the importance of shutting down your brain, resting and detoxifying your body!

How many of you sleep with your cell phones? With the TV or music on?

Do you wonder “what is wrong with me”?

Insomnia (the inability to sleep) might be your problem!

*It can take over, which increases your chances of getting sick. During sleep, your body fights off bacteria and germs, so you need to protect your immune system.

*It slows your memory and decreases your memory power.

*It increases your emotional feelings. You will either get slap happy, feeling very silly, or overly emotional, increasing feelings of anger, fear or sadness.

*It limits your response time. You may become more accident prone, or unable to think through or process things in the moment.

*It increases cravings for food. You must recharge your body at night, so you don’t eat lots of unhealthy food the following day!

So let’s talk about it!

Get your dose of sunshine. Your biological clock needs light so feed it. WE need sunlight during the day and darkness at night for a peaceful sleep.

Go to the dark side. Cut off all the lights. Shut the light off in your brain. A small light is okay, but too much light signals your brain to stay up or wake up.

Hot showers & warm baths. The temperature drop in your body signifies your body to rest. The water speaks to your body.

Lavender oils. A few oils in your bath or a pillow spray will help you to relax naturally.

NO sugary snacks or snacks before bed. Food before bed gives your body unnecessary energy. Instead, try a warm cup of herbal tea, like chamomile or a sleepy tea with honey.

Social media solitude. Shut down social media updates or the TV. Stop checking in with the world while you’re trying to shut down. Instead, journal or read a good book.

Define a sleep rhythm. Alarm your body. Set a time to get up and go to sleep, and you will find it easier for you to talk to your pillow and get the zzzz’s you need.
