SistaKeeper Poetry for the Soul : Mirror Mirror (optional)
Mirror, Mirror
When you look in the mirror what do you see?
Does your intellect know your spirit?
Or does your body do the talking?
Tell me, when you look in the mirror what do you see?
Does your reflection reflect the feelings you have inside or is your body creating a façade
that won’t even create a memory, but a lie?
When you look in the mirror what do you see?
Are you emulating what society has created?
or does your inner label spell out individuality
created by the divine, meaning I made it?
Queen, you are an original.
No makeup, fake hair, or fake nails
can compete with your natural beauty.
Know that and demand respect,
you are the pearl of this earth;
let your inner beauty reflect your true net worth!
Sure, you might be a diamond in the rough!
But you shine!
So next time you look in the mirror,
don’t let society dictate what you see.
Smile and say I represent this body.
Let the mirror know…
My mind, body and spirit reflect one soul
and remember…
Beauty is as beauty does
and natural beauty never grows old.
Grab a mirror for this lesson:
Name one thing on your face that you love.
Name one thing about your body, you don’t really like but you are learning to appreciate.
Tell the group what do you feel is your own style, if you were to go on a shopping spree, what would you purchase.
Each girl should repeat: As a SistaKeeper, I know I am unique and when people see me, what I want them to see is …
Each girl needs to state one new goal they will work on to be healthy on the inside and out for self.
i.e. eat a piece of fruit daily, say positive affirmations to self, take time to mediate, walk, listen to new music, etc
Have girls repeat in the circle aloud…I am unique and no one else can be me, because I am who I (and snap finger)!
Write their own Mirror, Mirror piece
